ABOUT US
The Association consists of eleven Branches: Cheshire, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Lancashire,
Leicestershire & Rutland, Maelor, Nottingham & Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire & County Durham,
Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Yorkshire. Each branch elects three representatives to sit on the
committee of the parent body, the General Council.
On joining the NCPA, members can choose one of the eleven Branches to which their membership will be attached. Most Branches hold a number of shows and events each year. These vary as each Branch is responsible for its own calendar of events and functions. Every member of the NCPA is entitled to reduced entry fees at all of the various NCPA Shows.
MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP CARDS and STAR ROSETTES
First membership subscriptions can be paid at any time of the year, but memberships are always renewable as from 1st January in any year. The membership card has a number which is unique to each individual member each year and this number must be quoted on all entry forms for NCPA Shows and for events as advised by the Branch running the event. Each Branch, and other shows which affiliate to the NCPA have special Star Rosettes, awarded to NCPA members only, which are allocated to specific classes nominated on the schedule. To qualify for these rosettes, a member must enter the ring wearing their NCPA Membership Badge and produce their current year’s membership card. The rosette is offered to the highest placed member who meets these criteria.
NEWSLETTERS and SHOW SCHEDULES
Members receive regular newsletters along with the schedules for the two shows run by General Council from the Main Office. Each branch Secretary is kept informed of the Branch membership and most will send out Branch details, newsletters, and show schedules direct to their members. If you need schedules from another Branch, please send a stamped self-addressed envelope to that Branch Show Secretary. Many schedules can be downloaded from the website www.thencpa.co.uk.
Year book
The NCPA Yearbook is printed at the beginning of each year and sent out to all members on the database at the end of December in the previous year. Extra copies can be purchased. Please ring Main Office to arrange this.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BECOMING AN NCPA PANEL JUDGE?
As a current Panel Judge with NCPA and your General Secretary, I frequently get asked how a person goes about joining the NCPA Judges’ Panel. Here is the basic procedure:
- Membership of NCPA is mandatory.
- Request an Application Form from the Office - fill in and return same.
- Carry out the required probationary appointments with suitable qualified judges.
- Await the outcome of the Judges’ Selection Committee.
- The minimum probation required is 4 for each Ridden Panel (with 4 different senior judges) and 4
for each In-hand Panel. - Members wishing to join the same Ridden and In-hand Panel may do 2 of each.
- Any member who is already on the Judging Panel of the NPS, BSPS, PUK, BSHA, AHS or Breed
Society may apply to be automatically accepted onto the equivalent NCPA Panel at the discretion
of the Judges’ Selection Committee.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BECOMINGA STEWARD?
The NCPA is constantly on the look-out for new Stewards. If younk you may have any of the following qualities, consider offering your services to your local Branch or Main Branch shows:
- Love of horses/ponies and showing.
- Free time, particularly at the weekends.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, ring procedures.
- A hat and a pen that works!
- A sense of humour!
Although the job has little to offer in terms of material reward, it really is great fun and a great way to make new friends and get more involved, particularly for those people who, for one reason or another, are no longer directly involved with showing. It is a very good introduction to those who feel they may like to be judges in the future - why not give it a try?
